Exploring the World of Green Tea: From History to Benefits

01/20/2025, 11:30 AM

Hello, today I would like to introduce a familiar and popular drink around the world: Green Tea.

What is green tea?

Green tea (also known as green tea) is made from the leaves of the tea plant (Camellia sinensis) but does not undergo oxidation (fermentation) like black tea or oolong tea. This helps green tea retain its natural green color and high antioxidant content.

History and origin:

Green tea originated in China, used for thousands of years. According to legend, tea was discovered by Shennong, a legendary king of China, around 2737 BC. From China, green tea spread to other Asian countries such as Japan, Korea, Vietnam and then the world.

Popular types of green tea:

There are many different types of green tea, depending on the tea variety, growing region and processing method. Some famous green teas include:

Longjing Tea: A famous Chinese green tea with flat leaves and a sweet taste.
Biluochun Tea: Another Chinese green tea with a spiral shape and a fruity aroma.
Gyokuro Tea (Japan): A premium Japanese green tea that is shaded before harvesting to increase its chlorophyll content and sweetness.
Matcha Tea (Japan): Green tea that is ground into a fine powder, often used in tea ceremonies and food processing.
Thai Nguyen Green Tea (Vietnam): A popular green tea in Vietnam with a slightly astringent taste and a sweet aftertaste.
Ingredients and benefits of green tea:

Green tea contains many health-beneficial ingredients, including:

Antioxidants (polyphenols, catechins, especially EGCG): Help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals, prevent aging and chronic diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular disease.
Caffeine: Helps with alertness, increases focus, and improves athletic performance. However, the caffeine content in green tea is lower than in coffee.
L-theanine: An amino acid that helps with relaxation, reduces stress, and improves sleep quality.
Vitamins and minerals: Green tea also contains small amounts of vitamin C, vitamin K, potassium, and folate.
